With Indrajatra around the corner can a Newar be away from the festivities even while abroad and more so when invited to join the celebrations here showing a gesture that could best be termed as camaraderie and solidarity not only with him as a Newar soul but to the Newars in Sikkim as a whole. A rare opportunity indeed to be there and see the manner fellow Newars here in the US under the banner of the Newah Organization of America (NOA) come together once again around this time to make best of the occasion. With Ganesh Chaturthi or Chatha celebrated ten days ahead, Indrajatra follows to well augur the oncoming season of festivities that the Newars are well-known for since the days of yore. Though some people relate it historically to the day the Newars doomed their fortune inebriated to lose the kingdom and their pride this very day but not to forget and more important would be the spirit it had and has to this day to reckon with the Indrajatra as being the unifying factor in spite of all the odds and hardships and despite the tendency to break apart in the slightest pretext such as the unmistaken characteristic of we the Newars worldwide.
This time the first welcome note to come my way was from Ram Shrestha, Jwojolopa!! I have heard that you are coming to USA next week. Welcome to USA again. Please let me know how long you will be here!! I acknowledged it with Jwajalappa! Thank you for your kind gesture. We shall be there for some months this time too to meet friends and relatives. Best wishes. We had the opportunity to meet him when we all visited his place with Dipak Prasad Shrestha during our last sojourn here. That time too such a welcome note came home from Season Shrestha when he invited me to attend the 9th Convention and General Meeting of the Newah Organization of America and talk on The Newars in Sikkim that saw the launch of my book Newar: Hami Yastai Chhaun by its President Rajesh Shrestha. They had thereafter many prominent figures like Dr. Bal Gopal Shrestha, Prof. Manik Lall Shrestha, Devdass Manandhar besides stalwarts like the Living Legend Satya Mohan Joshi and Padma Ratna Tuladhar to share with them the forum on different fields they have contributed towards the Newar cause. Season Shrestha was then the General Secretary later to succeed Rajesh Shrestha making further remarkable contributions. Ram Shrestha is the present incumbent carrying forward with his team of dedicated fellow Newars the good works of his predecessors adding much vigour and strength to boost up the activities and raise a whopping $10,000/- aid towards the relief, recovery, rebuild of the Nepal Earthquakes 2015 victims through good efforts of their organization. Familiar with their great works as all aware of by now, when not physically possible to be with them responded their invitations in acknowledgement with remarks wishing I were there and the function be a great success like always and excelling the previous ones. Proof of the pudding is in the eating and being with them all day long that day, meeting the people, seeing the work in action, enjoying the cultural evening and having the feast together in the night. My experiences shared earlier too (June 2010 post Celebrating the Newah Organization of America on www.karunaguthi.com/Thinking local) this account could be an update to familiarize our readers of their good works worth replicating back home in Sikkim and elsewhere.
During these five years their sincere dedicated efforts continued with renewed fervour and zeal every time they come together to celebrate an occasion but for the preservation, promotion and protection of the Newar culture, custom and tradition including the language - one of the most threatened languages in the world. I find their communication with the tagline We are better and
stronger when we work together quite appropriate and apt enough to send the message across the cross-section of our community. Here at NOA a person once entrusted with the task heading the Organization does not just cling on to the chair promoting himself and for his personal interests/gains year after year well beyond the prescribed term. In a routine manner, he has to quit and the mantle passes on to another equally enthusiastic, efficient and able hand taking the baton alit to go further up, fresh blood instilled, to enlighten and spread the message and good works they have been into together. NOA has no provision called second term in office as such that gives them ample opportunity to reunite, bond firmly in solidarity to further their efforts celebrating not only all the major festivities but also performing religious rites like Mha Puja, Kyeta Puja, etc. at a community level for greater social cause.
NOA was established and registered in 2001 in the state of Maryland, USA with the main objective to preserve and promote Newah culture, heritage and mother language and to unite all the Newah people for generations to come. Since the time has come for the Newah community to understand and recognize many important issues and developments taking place around and the impact they have on the community here in America and in homeland Nepal and to face this challenge and answer the needs, aspirations and demands of the community in the 21st century, NOA aims to represent Newars living in America and provide a democratic forum for the Newah community to advance in all fields of human activity, keeping in perspective the rich historical heritage of the past, working creatively and collectively with friends and well-wishers to resolve important issues of the present and to secure the future for the coming generations and for the country Nepal. NOA intends to advance the Newah community into the mainstream of American life and foster strong ties with compatriots in homeland Nepal. It aims to provide able and effective leadership and enhance the historical, socio-economic, cultural, lingual, literary, educational and techno-scientific bases of the community in order to help develop an intelligent, compassionate and creative Newah contribution and people.

To achieve these goals Annual Convention and General Meeting is organized every year since its inception in the Washington, DC metropolitan area on Memorial Day weekend in May to bring Newah people living in North America together. NOA was the first group in North America to organize Nepal Sambat Celebration in commemoration of National Hero Shankhadar Sakhwa. Started in 2003, NOA Language Center has been organizing the annual Mha Puja Celebration since 2006 to teach their younger generation cultural values of the Newars and to keep the tradition alive. It is the first Learning Center outside Nepal to teach Nepal Bhasa to everybody interested in learning, especially children born in Nepal but immigrated to the US very young. NOA has been organizing a very important ritual for Newah boys Kyeta Puja Ceremony in group since last 3 years in the Washington, DC metropolitan area to serve the local Newah community here in the US. Celebrated since 2011, Yenya Punhi/Indrajatra Samay Bajee Gathering with Lakhey Naach and Pulu Kisi (from 2012) to keep the culture and tradition alive has turned out to be a major event within Nepali organizations and communities. Swasthani Brata Samapan organized in 2012 as a very first public function here in the US has plans to make it an annual feature because it being a very unique Newah tradition in Kathmandu Valley when people go fasting a whole month. Pahacharhe Celebration started in 2012 and Yomari Punhi Celebration from 2013 to teach younger generation Newah values and traditions and is celebrated every year. Started in 2009 their Scholarship Programme is currently sponsoring 27 students from families having financial hardship at Jagat Sundar Bwonekuthi the first school in Nepal to teach Nepal Bhasa besides English, Nepali and other subjects.
Spreading its wings NOA has Chapters at San Francisco and Los Angeles in California, Seattle in Washington DC, Boston in New England and Florida and plans to reach all the major cities in the US in future. NOA thanks all their executive members for working hard towards achieving the goal. Each of the tenure has been better from the previous one, performance improved upon gaining strength to strength each year. Wikipedia yet to have their name entered with chapters or of similar bodies at different places in the US and elsewhere organizing Indrajatra though they mention of it being celebrated in Sikkim since 2010. Correcting the record, Indrajatra first held at Namthang in 2000. That year we celebrated 3-day long Sahasra Chandra Darshanama (sighting of a thousand moons) i.e. Jankwa of our Buba Jai Shanker Lall Shresta with Muma Indira in May taking out Maharatharohan or Great Procession which make me think sometimes if this was not behind to inspire celebrating the Indrajatra in Sikkim. Karuna Devi Smarak Dharmarth Guthi had organized it in association with Rhenock Newar Guthi and Sikkim Newar Guthi with its newly trained cultural troupe in traditional attire gave maiden performance of Dhimay Baja and Lakhey Naach for the first time ever in recent memory.
NOA Chapters at different places indicate solidarity amongst the Newars abroad while their broad spectral activities symbolize their unity and dedication towards the social cause in a foreign soil where they come to toil and survive taking care of the wellbeing of the self, family including children’s education and future besides that of the fellow Newars here or back home in Nepal taking out time to serve the cause. Three-four generations already here and many more pouring in each year, there is a greater need to welcome such social activities accompanied by philanthropic deeds with homeland Nepal still deep in their heart and me sharing their good works in my simple words here. Mere words deemed not enough, it struck my mind why not to honour their great deeds with our Jai Smarak Samman and a humble token sum of $ 151/- or
Rs. 10,001/- in cash under the auspices of Karuna Devi Smarak Dharmarth Guthi (established 1995) as no better occasion and opportune moment like celebrating Indrajatra here come our way. We had awarded the first Jai Smarak Samman on the occasion of the Silver Jubilee celebrations of the Rachna Books (adjudged ‘Bookstore of the Year’ recently www.facebook.com/rachnabooks) to Durga Prasad Shrestha (2005), editor Uday of Varanasi, India for his lifelong contributions in literature while the second went to Raja Shakya (2013) for his outstanding contributions working in the Asha Safu Kuthi, Kathmandu, Nepal. This time the Newah Organization of America deserved it the best and the citation reads, With deep sense of appreciation we feel honored to award the Jai Smarak Samman to Newah Organization of America in recognition of their exemplary outstanding works of excellence dedicated towards promotion, preservation and protection of the Newah culture, language, heritage, customs and traditions worth emulating by the Newars world over. NOA acknowledges it sharing our Announcement on their Facebook page with a note - NOA is very honored to be a recipient of this Samman. NOA appreciates your recognition on NOA working towards preservation and promotion of Newah culture, tradition and language. This Samman provides us more encouragement and responsibility to work for our Newah community and we are committed to do so!! Subhaye!!

इन्द्रजात्रा नजिकै आए के कुनै नेवार आफ्नो चाड़बाड़सित अलग्ग बस्नसक्छ चाहे उ मुलुकबाहिर नै किन नहोस् अनि अझ यस्तो महोत्सवमा कृपापूर्वक निम्त्याइएको छ भने सो व्यक्तिगत मात्र नभई समस्त सिक्किमवासी नेवारहरुप्रति प्रकट गरिएको बन्धुत्व र भ्रातृत्वको सदभावना सिद्ध हुन्छ किनकि मेरो पहिचान त्यसरी नै हुनुगएको छ यहाँ अमेरिकामा पनि ! वास्तवमा पनि यो एक दुर्लभ अवसर हो यस ताका नेवाः अर्गनाइजेसन अफ् अमेरिका (एन.ए.ओ. पर्याय् अमेरिका नेवार गुठी)-को तत्वावधानमा यहाँ अमेरिकाका नेवारहरुद्वारा आयोजित यस उपलक्ष्यमा सहभागी भई यसको पूर्ण आनन्द लिनु जुटेको हुन्छ | दस दिनअघि मात्र गणेश चतुर्थी अर्थात् चथा पालनको साथै धुमधामसाथ मनाउनु पर्ने नेवारहरुको प्रसिद्ध चिरपरिचित स्वभावको कारण अब हाम्रो चाड़बाड़हरु समय शुभारम्भ भएको हामी बुझ्नसक्छौं | कतिपयले हाम्रो गौरवमय इतिहासको त्यो अप्रिय दुर्भाग्यलाई देखाई नेवारहरुले आफ्नो राज्य सँगसँगै गर्व यही इन्द्रजात्राको दिन रक्सीको नशामा गुमाउनु गएकोले गर्दा यो कुनै खुशी मनाउने अवसर नभएर शोक दिवस हुनुपर्ने भन्छन् | तर सो दिन नेवारहरुको एकता र भ्रातृत्व यहाँ एकै ठाउँ भेला भएर सहभागिता जनाउने, जुन उहिले पनि थियो अनि आज पनि अनेक विसङ्गति झेल्दै भए ता पनि एकताको सुत्रमा बाँधिने अवसर पनि यही इन्द्रजात्रा नै हो | नत्र भने संसारभरिका हामी नेवारहरुको एक विशिष्ट पहिचान यस्तो पनि पाइन्छ एउटा सानो निहुँ वा बहानामा पनि विपरीत दिशातिर हिँड्न उसलाई कति बेर पनि लाग्दैन |
यस पटक मेरो अमेरिका भ्रमणमा स्वागत जनाउने प्रथम व्यक्ति राम श्रेष्ठ थिए अनि पत्र यस्तो थियो, “ज्वजलप्पा!! मैले सुने कि तपाईं अर्को हफ्ता अमेरिका आइपुग्नु हुँदै छ | अमेरिकामा फेरि स्वागत छ | कति समय यहाँ हुनुहुन्छ कृपया मलाई भन्नु होला !!” यसको जवाब मैले यस्तो लेखें “ज्वजलप्पा! यहाँले दया गरी सम्झिनुभएकोमा धन्यवाद छ | यस पालि पनि हामी मित्रहरु र आफन्त हरुसित भेटघाट गर्न केही महीनाका लागि यता हुनेछौं | शुभेच्छासाथ |” उहाँसित भेट गर्ने अवसर हाम्रो अघिल्लो भ्रमणमा वुडब्रीज भर्जिनियाबाट दीपकप्रसाद श्रेष्ठसँग फर्किंदा पाएको थिएँ | त्यस पटक पनि मैले सिजन श्रेष्ठबाट नेवाः अर्गनाइजेसन अफ् अमेरिकाको नवौं महाधिवेशन र आमसभामा सिक्किमवासी नेवारहरु’बारे केही शब्दहरु बोलिदिने अनुरोध गरी निम्त्याएका थिए अनि यसका सभापति राजेश श्रेष्ठले मेरो पुस्तक ‘नेवार : हामी यस्तै छौँ’ लोकार्पण गरेका थिए | म पछि उहाँहरुले अनेक विद्वान व्यक्तिहरु जस्तै डा. बालगोपाल श्रेष्ठ, प्रा. माणिक लाल श्रेष्ठ र देवदास मानन्धर बाहेक शताब्दी पुरुष सत्यमोहन जोशी र पद्मरत्न तुलाधर सरहका नेवारहरुको हितमा विभिन्न क्षेत्रमा योगदान पु-याउने अन्य विख्यात व्यक्तित्वहरुलाई निम्त्याएका थिए | त्यस बेला सिजन श्रेष्ठ महासचिव थिए र उनले राजेश श्रेष्ठपछि सभापतिको पदमा बसी अनेक थप उल्लेखनीय योगदान पु-याएका थिए | वर्तमान राम श्रेष्ठ आफ्ना समर्पित नेवारहरुको टोलीको साथ अघिल्ला पदाधिकारीहरुले पु-याएका सुकार्यहरुलाई अझ धेर जोश र शक्तिको साथ आफ्ना क्रियाकलापलाई अघि सार्दै नेपाल भूकम्प पीडितहरुको राहत, पुनर्स्थापना अनि पुनर्निर्माण सहायतार्थ दस हजार अमेरिकी डलर अर्थात् एक करोड़ नेपाली रुपियाँको सहयोग राशि सङ्ग्रह गर्न सक्षम भएका छन् | यहाँहरुका सबै महान् कार्यहरुसित अवगत भएकोले गर्दा जब पनि उहाँहरुका कार्यक्रममा निम्तो हुन्थ्यो तब म विनम्रतासाथ आफ्नो असमर्थता जनाउँदै कार्यक्रम सुसम्पन्न हुने कामना सँगसँगै सो सदैव झैं अघिल्लाहरुभन्दा धेरै सफल रहोस् भन्ने शुभकामना व्यक्त गर्नेगर्थें | कुनै पकवानको स्वाद जान्नुलाई सो खानु जरुरी भए झैं यहाँहरुका सुकार्यहरु जान्न-बुझ्नलाई अवसर हाम्रो त्यो पछिल्लो भेट थियो जब हामी सबै दिनभरी सँगै बसेर त्यहाँ उपस्थित विभिन्न व्यक्तिहरुसित भेटघाट गर्दै महाधिवेशनका विभिन्न कार्यक्रमहरु बढ्दै गएको हेर्न पाएर पछि साँझमा संस्कृतिक कार्यक्रमको आनन्द लिँदै रात्रिभोजमा सहभागी हुने अवसर पाएको थिएँ | मेरा यी अनुभवहरुको आधारमा एक लेख हाम्रो वेब साइट करुणागुठी डट कमको स्थानीय चिन्तन पृष्ठमा जून २०१० सालमा प्रेषित ‘सेलिब्रेटिङ्ग द् नेवार अर्गनाइजेसन अफ् अमेरिका’ अझ पनि पढ्नसकिन्छ भने प्रस्तुत लेख सो संस्थाका असल कार्यहरुको नवीनतम विवरण वा अपडेट हो भन्न सकिन्छ जसबाट हाम्रोतिर सिक्किम वा अन्यन्त्र स्थानमा पनि एक अनुकरणीय उदाहरणको रूपमा लाभदायक हुनेछ भन्ने मलाई लाग्छ |
पछिल्ला पाँच वर्षहरुमा उहाँहरुको समर्पित प्रयासहरुलाइ नौलो जोश र उत्साहसाथ सामुहिक रूपमा यस्ता चाड़बाड़ मनाउन निरन्तरता मात्र प्राप्त नभएर नेवार संस्कृति, रीतिथिति साथै संसारबाट विलुप्त हुनुलागेका भाषाहरुमा एक हाम्रो मातृभाषाको संरक्षण, सम्वृद्धि र सुरक्षाको लागि पनि सुअवसर जुट्न गएको लाग्छ | यसर्थ उहाँहरुको पत्राचारको अन्तमा लेखिएको पङ्क्ति “हामी अझ असल र शक्तिशाली हुन्छौं जब हामी सबै एकजुट भई काम गर्छौं” जुन खुबै अति सान्दर्भिक हुनुको साथै उपयुक्त प्रकारले हाम्रो समाजलाई व्यापक रूपमा सन्देश दिँदछ | नेवाः अर्गनाइजेसन अफ् अमेरिकालाई सञ्चालन गर्न अभिभारा लिएका पदाधिकारी आफ्नो व्यक्तिगत स्वार्थको लागि सो कुर्सीमा टाँसिएर बस्दैनन् न ता निजी हितको लागि सो पदलाई सिढ़ीको रूपमा प्रयोग नै गर्दछन् | कार्यकालको तीन वर्ष पूरा गरेपछि सो पद नयाँ जोशिलो र सक्षम व्यक्तिलाई गरिँदै आएका असल काम-कुराहरुलाई अघि सार्दै लैजान समान्य प्रक्रियामा हस्तान्तरण गरिन्छ - यहाँ दोस्रो कार्यावधिको लागि न कुनै प्रावधान नै छ न ता यस्तो व्यवस्था नै | यसले उनीहरुलाई एक जुट भएर संयुक्त रूपमा भागीदारी भएर प्रमुख चाड़बाड़ मात्र नभई म्ह पूजा, क्येता पूजा जस्ता धार्मिक कार्य अनि संस्कार बृहत् सामाजिक हितमा सामुहिक तौरले मनाउने गरिन्छ |
सन् २००१ मा स्थापना भई सोही साल संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिकाको मेरिल्याण्डमा पञ्जीकृत भएको नेवाः अर्गनाईजेशन अफ् अमेरिका (एन.ए.ओ.)-का मुख्य उद्देश्य नेवार संस्कृति, धरोहर र मातृभाषाको संरक्षण र प्रवर्धन गरी सबै नेवारहरुलाई एकताको सूत्रमा पुस्ता-पुस्तासम्म बाँध्न हो | आजको समय त्यस्ता अनेक महत्वपूर्ण मुद्दाहरु अनि हाम्रो वरिपरी भई रहेका विकासहरु ध्यानमा राख्दै जसको प्रभाव यहाँ अमेरिकामा भएका हाम्रो समुदाय साथै हाम्रो मातृभूमि नेपाललाई पनि पर्नजाँदछ साथै एक्कीसौं शताब्दीमा हाम्रो समुदाय समक्ष आएको यस चुनौतीलाई स्वीकार्दै आवश्यकता, आकाङ्क्षा अनि माँगहरुलाई ध्यानमा राखी अमेरिकामा भएका नेवारहरुलाई प्रतिनिधित्व गर्दै अनि नेवार समुदायलाई एक प्रजातान्त्रिक मञ्च प्रदान गरी मानवीय गतिविधिहरुका सबै पक्षहरु समेटेर हाम्रा पुर्खौली धनाढ़्य ऐतिहासिक धरोहरलाई आफ्नो परिप्रेक्ष्यमा राखी वर्तमानका यस्ता महत्वपूर्ण मुद्दाहरुलाई मित्रहरु अनि शुभेच्छुकहरुको साथ जुटाएर सृजनात्मक अनि सामुहिक तौरले सुल्झाएर आउँदा पुस्ताहरु अनि नेपाल देशको हितमा कामगर्ने छ | एन.ए.ओ.लाई अमेरिकी जनजीवनको अग्रिम पङ्क्तिमा नेवार समुदायलाई पु-याएर नेपालमा हाम्रा सह-देशवासीहरुसित बलियो सम्बन्ध गाँस्न पनि छ | एन.ए.ओ.ले सक्षम र प्रभावशाली नेतृत्व प्रदान गरेर नेवार समुदायको ऐतिहासिक, सामाजिक, आर्थिक, सॉस्कृतिक, भाषिक, साहित्यिक, शैक्षिक तथा तकनिकी-वैज्ञानिक आधारशीला निर्माण गरेर एक बौद्धिक, संवेदनशील अनि सृजनशील नेवार योगदानको विकासमा सहयोग गर्न चाहन्छ |
एन.ए.ओ. गतिविधिहरु
यी लक्ष्यहरुको प्राप्तिको लागि कटिबद्ध एन.ए.ओ.ले स्थापना भएकै सालदेखि वाशिङ्गटन डी.सी. मेट्रोपोलिटन एरियामा मई महिनामा मेमोरियल डे विकएण्ड छेक पारेर वर्षेनी ‘वार्षिक अधिवेशन एवम् महासभा’ आयोजित गरेर उत्तर अमेरिकामा बसोबासो गर्दै आएका नेवारहरुलाई एकत्रित गर्ने प्रयास गरिरहेको छ | एन.ए.ओ. नै उत्तर अमेरिकाको पहिलो समुह थियो जसले राष्ट्रिय विभूति शङ्खधर साख्वाको सम्मानमा ‘नेपाल संवत् समारोह’ आयोजन गर्दैआएको छ | सन् २००३ मा स्थपित ‘एन.ए.ओ. भाषा केन्द्र’ले नयाँ पुस्तामा नेवार संस्कृतिक महत्वबारे जानकारी दिँदै हाम्रो परम्परालाई कायम राख्ने उद्देश्यले हरेक वर्ष ‘म्ह पूजा समारोह’ आयोजित गर्दै आएको छ | नेपालबाहिर यस्तो पहिलो केन्द्र हो जसद्वारा सबै इच्छुक व्यक्तिहरुलाई, विशेष गरी नेपालमा जन्मेका तर सानै उमेरमा अमेरिका आएकाहरुलाई ‘नेपाल भाषा शिक्षा’ दिईन्छ | एन.ए.ओ.ले वाशिङ्गटन डी.सी. मेट्रोपोलिटन एरियामा नेवार बालकहरुको लागि एउटा खुबै महत्वपूर्ण संस्कार ‘सामुहिक क्येता पूजा’ विगत तीन सालदेखि निरन्तरताको साथ स्थानीय नेवार समुदायको हितमा आयोजना गर्दैआएको छ | सन् २०११ देखि ‘येंया पुन्हि/इन्द्रजात्रा समय बजी समारोह’ पनि लाखे नाच र पुलुकिसि(सन् २०१२ देखि)-को साथ आफ्नो जातीय संस्कृति र परम्परालाई ज्वलन्त राखी मनाउँदै आएको छ अनि यो विभिन्न नेपाली संस्थानहरु अनि समुदायहरुमाझ साथै अमेरिकाको यस पूर्वीय भागमा एक महान् महोत्सव सिद्ध भएको छ | ‘स्वस्थानी व्रत समापन समारोह’ २०१२ सालमा यहाँ अमेरिकामा पहिलो पटक सामुहिक रूपमा आयोजित गरिएको थियो र काठमाडौँ खाल्डोमा यो महिना-दिन लामो व्रत बस्ने एक खुबै विशिष्ट नेवार परम्परा भएकोले यसलाई वर्षेनी समारोहमा मनाउने योजना रहेको छ | सन् २०१२ देखिनै प्रारम्भ गरिएको ‘पहाचह्रे पालन’ अनि २०१३-देखि गरिएको ‘यमह्री पुन्हि पालन’ गरेर नयाँ पुस्तालाई हाम्रो नेवार महत्व साथै परम्पराबारे शिक्षा दिने उद्देश्यले प्रत्येक वर्ष मनाइने गरिन्छ | सन् २००९ साल देखि थालिएको ‘छात्रवृत्ति कार्यक्रम’ अन्तर्गत् आर्थिक विपन्न परिवारका २७जना विद्यार्थीहरुलाई अहिले काठमाडौँस्थित जगत् सुन्दर ब्वने कुथि (अर्थात् पाठशाला) जो नेपालको पहिलो विद्यालय हो जहाँ अङ्ग्रेजी, नेपाली अनि अन्य विषयहरु सँगसँगै नेपाल भाषामा पनि शिक्षा दिईन्छ |
एन.ए.ओ.ले आफ्नो उद्देश्यहरुलाई अघि सर्दै कार्यक्षेत्र विस्तृत गर्न हाल पाँच वटा स्थानमा अध्याय प्रारम्भ गरेको छ अनि यी केलिफोर्नियामा सेन फ्रान्सिस्को र लोस एन्जेलेस, वाशिङ्गटन डी.सी.मा सियाटल, न्यु इङ्गल्याण्डमा बोस्टन अनि फ्लोरिडा राज्यमा छन् साथै भविष्यमा अमेरिकाको हरेक ठुलो शहरमा पुग्ने योजना छ | आफ्ना समस्त एन.ए.ओ. र यसका अध्यायहरुमा भएका समस्त कार्यकारिणी सदस्यहरु लगायत सबैप्रति भावी पिढ़ीको हित ध्यानमा राखी नेवार संस्कृति, धरोहर र मात्र भाषाको संरक्षण अनि संवर्धनको लागि कठिन परिश्रम गरेर समर्पित सेवा पु-याए बापत् आफ्नो धन्यवाद ज्ञापन गर्दछ | प्रत्येक कार्यकाल अघिल्लो भन्दा अझ राम्रो र प्रभावशाली हुनु गएर प्रत्येक वर्ष प्राप्त परिणाम पनि असल हुनुगएको छ | तथापि ‘विकिपेडिया’मा भने एन.ओ.ए. अनि यसका अनेक अध्यायहरुद्वारा आयोजित गर्दै आएको भए पनि यसमा इन्द्रजात्रा पालन गर्ने स्थानको नाममा अमेरिकाको वा एन.ओ.ए.को नाम भने पाइँदैन | सिक्किममा इन्द्रजात्रा सन् २०१०-देखि पालन गरिएको देखाइएको छ तर यसको सही तथ्य साल २००० हो | त्यही साल मई ३०, ३१ र जून १ को दिन हामीले हाम्रो बुवा जयशङ्कर लाल श्रेष्ठ अनि मुमा इन्दिराको ‘सहस्र चन्द्र दर्शनम्’ वा ‘महारथारोहण’ अर्थात् ,जंक्व’ रिनाकमा तीन दिनसम्म भव्य रूपमा धुमधामसाथ करुणादेवी स्मारक धर्मार्थ गुठीको तत्वावधानमा रिनाक नेवार गुठी र सिक्किम नेवार गुठीको सहयोगमा मनाएका थियौं | मलाई कहिलेकाहीं यस्तो लाग्छ कि कहीं-कतै जात्राको परम्परा त्यहींबाट शुरु भएको र यसैबाट प्रेरणा पाएर सिक्किममा केही महिनापछि इन्द्रजात्रा पालन गर्न शुरु भएको त होइन् कि ?! यसै ‘महारथारोहण’ यात्राको अवसरमा सिक्किम नेवार गुठीका भर्खरै तालीम प्राप्त कलाकारहरुले पारम्परिक वेशभूषामा धिमे बाजा बजाएर लाखे नाच पहिलो पटक सार्वजनिक रूपमा प्रदर्शन गर्ने अवसर यही बेला पाएका थिए |
विभिन्न स्थानहरुमा फैलिएका एन.ए.ओ.का अध्यायहरुबाट नेवारहरूमाझ भएको एकबद्धता झल्किन्छ भने उनीहरुका बहु-आयामिक गतिविधिहरुले विदेशमा पुगेर जीवन धान्नलाई सङ्घर्षरत भई स्वयम् आफ्नो अनि छोरा-छोरीको शिक्षा र स्वास्थ्य साथै परिवारको हित मात्र नभएर यहाँ भएका साथै आफ्नो मुलुक नेपालमा आफ्ना सह-जातीयहरुको भलोको लागि बृहतर सामाजिक हितमा एक सूत्रमा बाँधिनु आवश्यक ठान्दछ | यी बाध्यता अतिरिक्त उनीहरुले आफ्नो संस्कृति, रीतिथिति, धरोहर, भाषा अनि साहित्य समेतको संरक्षणको लागि समर्पित पाउँछौ | यहाँ भएका तीन-चार पुस्ताबाहेक वर्षेनी अनेकौं थपिनु गएको बढ़्दो सङ्ख्यामा पनि ध्यान राख्दै अनेक जनकल्याण कार्यमा सङ्लग्न भएको देख्दा उनीहरुको भित्रि हृदयमा आफ्नो मुलुकप्रतिको माया गाढ़िएर बसेको बुझ्नमा आउँछ, उनीहरुका सुकार्यहरुसित भएकोले प्रशंसामा म यहाँ केही शब्दहरु राख्न कटिबद्ध ठान्दछु | मेरा यी शब्दहरु पर्याप्त नहुने पाएर उनीहरुका महान् कार्यहरुको सराहनामा करुणादेवी स्मारक धर्मार्थ गुठीको तत्वावधानमा हाम्रो परिवारद्वारा प्रारम्भ गरिएको ‘जय स्मारक सम्मान’ सँगसँगै अमेरिकी डलर १५१/- अर्थात् रु. १०,०००१/- मात्रको तुच्छ राशिसहित टक्र्याउन आफ्नो कर्तव्य भएको अनि यसको निम्ति इन्द्रजात्रा जस्तो महान् पर्वभन्दा धेर उपयुक्त साथै यस दिनभन्दा अझ असल सुअवसर अन्य कुन दिन मेरोअघि हुनुसक्छ र भन्ने मलाई लाग्दछ | हामीले रचना पुस्तक (भर्खरै सर्वश्रेष्ठ घोषित भई ‘वर्षको पुस्तकपसल’ उपाधि प्राप्त भएको छ हेर्नुहोस् फेसबुकमा रचनाबुक्स) रजत जयन्तीको अवसरमा प्रथम ‘जय स्मारक सम्मान’ वाराणसी, भारतका उदय नेपाली साहित्य सङ्कलनका सम्पादक-प्रकाशक दुर्गाप्रसाद श्रेष्ठलाई सन् २००५ सालमा उनको आजीवन साहित्य-सेवाको निम्ति, काठमाडौँ नेपालको आशा सफुकुथिमा सेवारत छँदा उल्लेखनीय दीर्घकालीन योगदान पु-याए बापत् २०१३ सालमा राजा शाक्यलाई दोस्रो ‘जय स्मारक सम्मान’द्वारा सम्मानित गरेका थियौं अनि तेस्रो जय स्मारक सम्मानको लागि यस पटक हामीले नेवाः अर्गनाइजेसन अफ् अमेरिकालाई सही हकदार चिन्हित गरेका छौँ र प्रशस्ति-पत्र यस्तो छ - “नेवार संस्कृति, भाषा, धरोहर, रीतिथिति अनि परम्पराको प्रवर्धन, संरक्षण तथा संवर्धनप्रति समर्पित अनुकरणीय उल्लेखनीय उत्कृष्ट योगदान पु-याए बापत् अति प्रशंसा-भावसाथ ‘नेवा: अर्गनाइजेसन अफ् अमेरिका’लाई ‘जय स्मारक सम्मान’प्रदान गर्नमा स्वयम्-लाई सम्मानित ठान्दछौं |” हाम्रो यस प्रस्तावको घोषणालाई आफ्नो फेसबुक पृष्ठमा राख्दै यस्तो प्रतिक्रिया गरेको पाइन्छ – “यो सम्मान प्राप्त हुनेभएकोमा एन.ए.ओ. स्वयम्-लाई खुबै सम्मानित भएको ठान्दछौँ अनि नेवार संस्कृति, परम्परा र भाषाको संरक्षण र प्रवर्धनप्रतिको एन.ए.ओ.-द्वारा गरिएका कार्यहरुको सराहनामा यहाँहरुको यस निर्णयलाई प्रशंसा गर्दछौं | यस सम्मानले हामीलाई हाम्रो नेवार समुदायप्रति सेवा पु-याउने अझ धेर प्रोत्साहन प्राप्त भई जिम्मेवारीपूर्वक कार्य गर्न हामी आफैलाई समर्पित भएको पाउँदछौं!! सुभाय् !!”
इन्द्रजात्राको यस पावन दिवसमा हामी सबैमाथि देवी-देवताको अनुकम्पा रहोस् – हामी एकजुट भई अझ असल अनि शक्तिशाली हुँदै सफलताका टाकुरा टाकुरा उक्लिनुसकौं ! सदैव अघि-अघि बढ्नसकौं र यो परम्परा अघिल्ला पुस्तालाई दिँदै जाऔं !!
दृष्ट्व्य : यो प्रस्तुति लेखकको जीवन-यात्रा क्रममा भोगेका र हाल अमेरिका छँदाका व्यक्तिगत अनुभव मात्र भएकोले यसलाई कुनै शोध-अध्ययन वा साहित्यिक कार्य नभई केही घट्नाक्रमलाई, जस अन्तर्गत् बिचबीचमा केही गल्छेँड़ो हुँदै, यहाँहरुसमक्ष राख्ने एक तुच्छ प्रयास मात्र भएको र त्यही अनुरूप लिइदिनहुन आग्रह गरिन्छ | कतिपय नाम ती सबसित जोड़्ने प्रयासमा आवश्यक भएकोले राखिएका हुन् - यस अतिरिक्त अन्यथा अन्य केही अभिप्राय नरहेको स्पष्ट गर्नचाहन्छु | सम्पर्कको लागि इमेल गर्नुहोस्: [email protected]
यस पटक मेरो अमेरिका भ्रमणमा स्वागत जनाउने प्रथम व्यक्ति राम श्रेष्ठ थिए अनि पत्र यस्तो थियो, “ज्वजलप्पा!! मैले सुने कि तपाईं अर्को हफ्ता अमेरिका आइपुग्नु हुँदै छ | अमेरिकामा फेरि स्वागत छ | कति समय यहाँ हुनुहुन्छ कृपया मलाई भन्नु होला !!” यसको जवाब मैले यस्तो लेखें “ज्वजलप्पा! यहाँले दया गरी सम्झिनुभएकोमा धन्यवाद छ | यस पालि पनि हामी मित्रहरु र आफन्त हरुसित भेटघाट गर्न केही महीनाका लागि यता हुनेछौं | शुभेच्छासाथ |” उहाँसित भेट गर्ने अवसर हाम्रो अघिल्लो भ्रमणमा वुडब्रीज भर्जिनियाबाट दीपकप्रसाद श्रेष्ठसँग फर्किंदा पाएको थिएँ | त्यस पटक पनि मैले सिजन श्रेष्ठबाट नेवाः अर्गनाइजेसन अफ् अमेरिकाको नवौं महाधिवेशन र आमसभामा सिक्किमवासी नेवारहरु’बारे केही शब्दहरु बोलिदिने अनुरोध गरी निम्त्याएका थिए अनि यसका सभापति राजेश श्रेष्ठले मेरो पुस्तक ‘नेवार : हामी यस्तै छौँ’ लोकार्पण गरेका थिए | म पछि उहाँहरुले अनेक विद्वान व्यक्तिहरु जस्तै डा. बालगोपाल श्रेष्ठ, प्रा. माणिक लाल श्रेष्ठ र देवदास मानन्धर बाहेक शताब्दी पुरुष सत्यमोहन जोशी र पद्मरत्न तुलाधर सरहका नेवारहरुको हितमा विभिन्न क्षेत्रमा योगदान पु-याउने अन्य विख्यात व्यक्तित्वहरुलाई निम्त्याएका थिए | त्यस बेला सिजन श्रेष्ठ महासचिव थिए र उनले राजेश श्रेष्ठपछि सभापतिको पदमा बसी अनेक थप उल्लेखनीय योगदान पु-याएका थिए | वर्तमान राम श्रेष्ठ आफ्ना समर्पित नेवारहरुको टोलीको साथ अघिल्ला पदाधिकारीहरुले पु-याएका सुकार्यहरुलाई अझ धेर जोश र शक्तिको साथ आफ्ना क्रियाकलापलाई अघि सार्दै नेपाल भूकम्प पीडितहरुको राहत, पुनर्स्थापना अनि पुनर्निर्माण सहायतार्थ दस हजार अमेरिकी डलर अर्थात् एक करोड़ नेपाली रुपियाँको सहयोग राशि सङ्ग्रह गर्न सक्षम भएका छन् | यहाँहरुका सबै महान् कार्यहरुसित अवगत भएकोले गर्दा जब पनि उहाँहरुका कार्यक्रममा निम्तो हुन्थ्यो तब म विनम्रतासाथ आफ्नो असमर्थता जनाउँदै कार्यक्रम सुसम्पन्न हुने कामना सँगसँगै सो सदैव झैं अघिल्लाहरुभन्दा धेरै सफल रहोस् भन्ने शुभकामना व्यक्त गर्नेगर्थें | कुनै पकवानको स्वाद जान्नुलाई सो खानु जरुरी भए झैं यहाँहरुका सुकार्यहरु जान्न-बुझ्नलाई अवसर हाम्रो त्यो पछिल्लो भेट थियो जब हामी सबै दिनभरी सँगै बसेर त्यहाँ उपस्थित विभिन्न व्यक्तिहरुसित भेटघाट गर्दै महाधिवेशनका विभिन्न कार्यक्रमहरु बढ्दै गएको हेर्न पाएर पछि साँझमा संस्कृतिक कार्यक्रमको आनन्द लिँदै रात्रिभोजमा सहभागी हुने अवसर पाएको थिएँ | मेरा यी अनुभवहरुको आधारमा एक लेख हाम्रो वेब साइट करुणागुठी डट कमको स्थानीय चिन्तन पृष्ठमा जून २०१० सालमा प्रेषित ‘सेलिब्रेटिङ्ग द् नेवार अर्गनाइजेसन अफ् अमेरिका’ अझ पनि पढ्नसकिन्छ भने प्रस्तुत लेख सो संस्थाका असल कार्यहरुको नवीनतम विवरण वा अपडेट हो भन्न सकिन्छ जसबाट हाम्रोतिर सिक्किम वा अन्यन्त्र स्थानमा पनि एक अनुकरणीय उदाहरणको रूपमा लाभदायक हुनेछ भन्ने मलाई लाग्छ |
पछिल्ला पाँच वर्षहरुमा उहाँहरुको समर्पित प्रयासहरुलाइ नौलो जोश र उत्साहसाथ सामुहिक रूपमा यस्ता चाड़बाड़ मनाउन निरन्तरता मात्र प्राप्त नभएर नेवार संस्कृति, रीतिथिति साथै संसारबाट विलुप्त हुनुलागेका भाषाहरुमा एक हाम्रो मातृभाषाको संरक्षण, सम्वृद्धि र सुरक्षाको लागि पनि सुअवसर जुट्न गएको लाग्छ | यसर्थ उहाँहरुको पत्राचारको अन्तमा लेखिएको पङ्क्ति “हामी अझ असल र शक्तिशाली हुन्छौं जब हामी सबै एकजुट भई काम गर्छौं” जुन खुबै अति सान्दर्भिक हुनुको साथै उपयुक्त प्रकारले हाम्रो समाजलाई व्यापक रूपमा सन्देश दिँदछ | नेवाः अर्गनाइजेसन अफ् अमेरिकालाई सञ्चालन गर्न अभिभारा लिएका पदाधिकारी आफ्नो व्यक्तिगत स्वार्थको लागि सो कुर्सीमा टाँसिएर बस्दैनन् न ता निजी हितको लागि सो पदलाई सिढ़ीको रूपमा प्रयोग नै गर्दछन् | कार्यकालको तीन वर्ष पूरा गरेपछि सो पद नयाँ जोशिलो र सक्षम व्यक्तिलाई गरिँदै आएका असल काम-कुराहरुलाई अघि सार्दै लैजान समान्य प्रक्रियामा हस्तान्तरण गरिन्छ - यहाँ दोस्रो कार्यावधिको लागि न कुनै प्रावधान नै छ न ता यस्तो व्यवस्था नै | यसले उनीहरुलाई एक जुट भएर संयुक्त रूपमा भागीदारी भएर प्रमुख चाड़बाड़ मात्र नभई म्ह पूजा, क्येता पूजा जस्ता धार्मिक कार्य अनि संस्कार बृहत् सामाजिक हितमा सामुहिक तौरले मनाउने गरिन्छ |
सन् २००१ मा स्थापना भई सोही साल संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिकाको मेरिल्याण्डमा पञ्जीकृत भएको नेवाः अर्गनाईजेशन अफ् अमेरिका (एन.ए.ओ.)-का मुख्य उद्देश्य नेवार संस्कृति, धरोहर र मातृभाषाको संरक्षण र प्रवर्धन गरी सबै नेवारहरुलाई एकताको सूत्रमा पुस्ता-पुस्तासम्म बाँध्न हो | आजको समय त्यस्ता अनेक महत्वपूर्ण मुद्दाहरु अनि हाम्रो वरिपरी भई रहेका विकासहरु ध्यानमा राख्दै जसको प्रभाव यहाँ अमेरिकामा भएका हाम्रो समुदाय साथै हाम्रो मातृभूमि नेपाललाई पनि पर्नजाँदछ साथै एक्कीसौं शताब्दीमा हाम्रो समुदाय समक्ष आएको यस चुनौतीलाई स्वीकार्दै आवश्यकता, आकाङ्क्षा अनि माँगहरुलाई ध्यानमा राखी अमेरिकामा भएका नेवारहरुलाई प्रतिनिधित्व गर्दै अनि नेवार समुदायलाई एक प्रजातान्त्रिक मञ्च प्रदान गरी मानवीय गतिविधिहरुका सबै पक्षहरु समेटेर हाम्रा पुर्खौली धनाढ़्य ऐतिहासिक धरोहरलाई आफ्नो परिप्रेक्ष्यमा राखी वर्तमानका यस्ता महत्वपूर्ण मुद्दाहरुलाई मित्रहरु अनि शुभेच्छुकहरुको साथ जुटाएर सृजनात्मक अनि सामुहिक तौरले सुल्झाएर आउँदा पुस्ताहरु अनि नेपाल देशको हितमा कामगर्ने छ | एन.ए.ओ.लाई अमेरिकी जनजीवनको अग्रिम पङ्क्तिमा नेवार समुदायलाई पु-याएर नेपालमा हाम्रा सह-देशवासीहरुसित बलियो सम्बन्ध गाँस्न पनि छ | एन.ए.ओ.ले सक्षम र प्रभावशाली नेतृत्व प्रदान गरेर नेवार समुदायको ऐतिहासिक, सामाजिक, आर्थिक, सॉस्कृतिक, भाषिक, साहित्यिक, शैक्षिक तथा तकनिकी-वैज्ञानिक आधारशीला निर्माण गरेर एक बौद्धिक, संवेदनशील अनि सृजनशील नेवार योगदानको विकासमा सहयोग गर्न चाहन्छ |
एन.ए.ओ. गतिविधिहरु
यी लक्ष्यहरुको प्राप्तिको लागि कटिबद्ध एन.ए.ओ.ले स्थापना भएकै सालदेखि वाशिङ्गटन डी.सी. मेट्रोपोलिटन एरियामा मई महिनामा मेमोरियल डे विकएण्ड छेक पारेर वर्षेनी ‘वार्षिक अधिवेशन एवम् महासभा’ आयोजित गरेर उत्तर अमेरिकामा बसोबासो गर्दै आएका नेवारहरुलाई एकत्रित गर्ने प्रयास गरिरहेको छ | एन.ए.ओ. नै उत्तर अमेरिकाको पहिलो समुह थियो जसले राष्ट्रिय विभूति शङ्खधर साख्वाको सम्मानमा ‘नेपाल संवत् समारोह’ आयोजन गर्दैआएको छ | सन् २००३ मा स्थपित ‘एन.ए.ओ. भाषा केन्द्र’ले नयाँ पुस्तामा नेवार संस्कृतिक महत्वबारे जानकारी दिँदै हाम्रो परम्परालाई कायम राख्ने उद्देश्यले हरेक वर्ष ‘म्ह पूजा समारोह’ आयोजित गर्दै आएको छ | नेपालबाहिर यस्तो पहिलो केन्द्र हो जसद्वारा सबै इच्छुक व्यक्तिहरुलाई, विशेष गरी नेपालमा जन्मेका तर सानै उमेरमा अमेरिका आएकाहरुलाई ‘नेपाल भाषा शिक्षा’ दिईन्छ | एन.ए.ओ.ले वाशिङ्गटन डी.सी. मेट्रोपोलिटन एरियामा नेवार बालकहरुको लागि एउटा खुबै महत्वपूर्ण संस्कार ‘सामुहिक क्येता पूजा’ विगत तीन सालदेखि निरन्तरताको साथ स्थानीय नेवार समुदायको हितमा आयोजना गर्दैआएको छ | सन् २०११ देखि ‘येंया पुन्हि/इन्द्रजात्रा समय बजी समारोह’ पनि लाखे नाच र पुलुकिसि(सन् २०१२ देखि)-को साथ आफ्नो जातीय संस्कृति र परम्परालाई ज्वलन्त राखी मनाउँदै आएको छ अनि यो विभिन्न नेपाली संस्थानहरु अनि समुदायहरुमाझ साथै अमेरिकाको यस पूर्वीय भागमा एक महान् महोत्सव सिद्ध भएको छ | ‘स्वस्थानी व्रत समापन समारोह’ २०१२ सालमा यहाँ अमेरिकामा पहिलो पटक सामुहिक रूपमा आयोजित गरिएको थियो र काठमाडौँ खाल्डोमा यो महिना-दिन लामो व्रत बस्ने एक खुबै विशिष्ट नेवार परम्परा भएकोले यसलाई वर्षेनी समारोहमा मनाउने योजना रहेको छ | सन् २०१२ देखिनै प्रारम्भ गरिएको ‘पहाचह्रे पालन’ अनि २०१३-देखि गरिएको ‘यमह्री पुन्हि पालन’ गरेर नयाँ पुस्तालाई हाम्रो नेवार महत्व साथै परम्पराबारे शिक्षा दिने उद्देश्यले प्रत्येक वर्ष मनाइने गरिन्छ | सन् २००९ साल देखि थालिएको ‘छात्रवृत्ति कार्यक्रम’ अन्तर्गत् आर्थिक विपन्न परिवारका २७जना विद्यार्थीहरुलाई अहिले काठमाडौँस्थित जगत् सुन्दर ब्वने कुथि (अर्थात् पाठशाला) जो नेपालको पहिलो विद्यालय हो जहाँ अङ्ग्रेजी, नेपाली अनि अन्य विषयहरु सँगसँगै नेपाल भाषामा पनि शिक्षा दिईन्छ |
एन.ए.ओ.ले आफ्नो उद्देश्यहरुलाई अघि सर्दै कार्यक्षेत्र विस्तृत गर्न हाल पाँच वटा स्थानमा अध्याय प्रारम्भ गरेको छ अनि यी केलिफोर्नियामा सेन फ्रान्सिस्को र लोस एन्जेलेस, वाशिङ्गटन डी.सी.मा सियाटल, न्यु इङ्गल्याण्डमा बोस्टन अनि फ्लोरिडा राज्यमा छन् साथै भविष्यमा अमेरिकाको हरेक ठुलो शहरमा पुग्ने योजना छ | आफ्ना समस्त एन.ए.ओ. र यसका अध्यायहरुमा भएका समस्त कार्यकारिणी सदस्यहरु लगायत सबैप्रति भावी पिढ़ीको हित ध्यानमा राखी नेवार संस्कृति, धरोहर र मात्र भाषाको संरक्षण अनि संवर्धनको लागि कठिन परिश्रम गरेर समर्पित सेवा पु-याए बापत् आफ्नो धन्यवाद ज्ञापन गर्दछ | प्रत्येक कार्यकाल अघिल्लो भन्दा अझ राम्रो र प्रभावशाली हुनु गएर प्रत्येक वर्ष प्राप्त परिणाम पनि असल हुनुगएको छ | तथापि ‘विकिपेडिया’मा भने एन.ओ.ए. अनि यसका अनेक अध्यायहरुद्वारा आयोजित गर्दै आएको भए पनि यसमा इन्द्रजात्रा पालन गर्ने स्थानको नाममा अमेरिकाको वा एन.ओ.ए.को नाम भने पाइँदैन | सिक्किममा इन्द्रजात्रा सन् २०१०-देखि पालन गरिएको देखाइएको छ तर यसको सही तथ्य साल २००० हो | त्यही साल मई ३०, ३१ र जून १ को दिन हामीले हाम्रो बुवा जयशङ्कर लाल श्रेष्ठ अनि मुमा इन्दिराको ‘सहस्र चन्द्र दर्शनम्’ वा ‘महारथारोहण’ अर्थात् ,जंक्व’ रिनाकमा तीन दिनसम्म भव्य रूपमा धुमधामसाथ करुणादेवी स्मारक धर्मार्थ गुठीको तत्वावधानमा रिनाक नेवार गुठी र सिक्किम नेवार गुठीको सहयोगमा मनाएका थियौं | मलाई कहिलेकाहीं यस्तो लाग्छ कि कहीं-कतै जात्राको परम्परा त्यहींबाट शुरु भएको र यसैबाट प्रेरणा पाएर सिक्किममा केही महिनापछि इन्द्रजात्रा पालन गर्न शुरु भएको त होइन् कि ?! यसै ‘महारथारोहण’ यात्राको अवसरमा सिक्किम नेवार गुठीका भर्खरै तालीम प्राप्त कलाकारहरुले पारम्परिक वेशभूषामा धिमे बाजा बजाएर लाखे नाच पहिलो पटक सार्वजनिक रूपमा प्रदर्शन गर्ने अवसर यही बेला पाएका थिए |
विभिन्न स्थानहरुमा फैलिएका एन.ए.ओ.का अध्यायहरुबाट नेवारहरूमाझ भएको एकबद्धता झल्किन्छ भने उनीहरुका बहु-आयामिक गतिविधिहरुले विदेशमा पुगेर जीवन धान्नलाई सङ्घर्षरत भई स्वयम् आफ्नो अनि छोरा-छोरीको शिक्षा र स्वास्थ्य साथै परिवारको हित मात्र नभएर यहाँ भएका साथै आफ्नो मुलुक नेपालमा आफ्ना सह-जातीयहरुको भलोको लागि बृहतर सामाजिक हितमा एक सूत्रमा बाँधिनु आवश्यक ठान्दछ | यी बाध्यता अतिरिक्त उनीहरुले आफ्नो संस्कृति, रीतिथिति, धरोहर, भाषा अनि साहित्य समेतको संरक्षणको लागि समर्पित पाउँछौ | यहाँ भएका तीन-चार पुस्ताबाहेक वर्षेनी अनेकौं थपिनु गएको बढ़्दो सङ्ख्यामा पनि ध्यान राख्दै अनेक जनकल्याण कार्यमा सङ्लग्न भएको देख्दा उनीहरुको भित्रि हृदयमा आफ्नो मुलुकप्रतिको माया गाढ़िएर बसेको बुझ्नमा आउँछ, उनीहरुका सुकार्यहरुसित भएकोले प्रशंसामा म यहाँ केही शब्दहरु राख्न कटिबद्ध ठान्दछु | मेरा यी शब्दहरु पर्याप्त नहुने पाएर उनीहरुका महान् कार्यहरुको सराहनामा करुणादेवी स्मारक धर्मार्थ गुठीको तत्वावधानमा हाम्रो परिवारद्वारा प्रारम्भ गरिएको ‘जय स्मारक सम्मान’ सँगसँगै अमेरिकी डलर १५१/- अर्थात् रु. १०,०००१/- मात्रको तुच्छ राशिसहित टक्र्याउन आफ्नो कर्तव्य भएको अनि यसको निम्ति इन्द्रजात्रा जस्तो महान् पर्वभन्दा धेर उपयुक्त साथै यस दिनभन्दा अझ असल सुअवसर अन्य कुन दिन मेरोअघि हुनुसक्छ र भन्ने मलाई लाग्दछ | हामीले रचना पुस्तक (भर्खरै सर्वश्रेष्ठ घोषित भई ‘वर्षको पुस्तकपसल’ उपाधि प्राप्त भएको छ हेर्नुहोस् फेसबुकमा रचनाबुक्स) रजत जयन्तीको अवसरमा प्रथम ‘जय स्मारक सम्मान’ वाराणसी, भारतका उदय नेपाली साहित्य सङ्कलनका सम्पादक-प्रकाशक दुर्गाप्रसाद श्रेष्ठलाई सन् २००५ सालमा उनको आजीवन साहित्य-सेवाको निम्ति, काठमाडौँ नेपालको आशा सफुकुथिमा सेवारत छँदा उल्लेखनीय दीर्घकालीन योगदान पु-याए बापत् २०१३ सालमा राजा शाक्यलाई दोस्रो ‘जय स्मारक सम्मान’द्वारा सम्मानित गरेका थियौं अनि तेस्रो जय स्मारक सम्मानको लागि यस पटक हामीले नेवाः अर्गनाइजेसन अफ् अमेरिकालाई सही हकदार चिन्हित गरेका छौँ र प्रशस्ति-पत्र यस्तो छ - “नेवार संस्कृति, भाषा, धरोहर, रीतिथिति अनि परम्पराको प्रवर्धन, संरक्षण तथा संवर्धनप्रति समर्पित अनुकरणीय उल्लेखनीय उत्कृष्ट योगदान पु-याए बापत् अति प्रशंसा-भावसाथ ‘नेवा: अर्गनाइजेसन अफ् अमेरिका’लाई ‘जय स्मारक सम्मान’प्रदान गर्नमा स्वयम्-लाई सम्मानित ठान्दछौं |” हाम्रो यस प्रस्तावको घोषणालाई आफ्नो फेसबुक पृष्ठमा राख्दै यस्तो प्रतिक्रिया गरेको पाइन्छ – “यो सम्मान प्राप्त हुनेभएकोमा एन.ए.ओ. स्वयम्-लाई खुबै सम्मानित भएको ठान्दछौँ अनि नेवार संस्कृति, परम्परा र भाषाको संरक्षण र प्रवर्धनप्रतिको एन.ए.ओ.-द्वारा गरिएका कार्यहरुको सराहनामा यहाँहरुको यस निर्णयलाई प्रशंसा गर्दछौं | यस सम्मानले हामीलाई हाम्रो नेवार समुदायप्रति सेवा पु-याउने अझ धेर प्रोत्साहन प्राप्त भई जिम्मेवारीपूर्वक कार्य गर्न हामी आफैलाई समर्पित भएको पाउँदछौं!! सुभाय् !!”
इन्द्रजात्राको यस पावन दिवसमा हामी सबैमाथि देवी-देवताको अनुकम्पा रहोस् – हामी एकजुट भई अझ असल अनि शक्तिशाली हुँदै सफलताका टाकुरा टाकुरा उक्लिनुसकौं ! सदैव अघि-अघि बढ्नसकौं र यो परम्परा अघिल्ला पुस्तालाई दिँदै जाऔं !!
दृष्ट्व्य : यो प्रस्तुति लेखकको जीवन-यात्रा क्रममा भोगेका र हाल अमेरिका छँदाका व्यक्तिगत अनुभव मात्र भएकोले यसलाई कुनै शोध-अध्ययन वा साहित्यिक कार्य नभई केही घट्नाक्रमलाई, जस अन्तर्गत् बिचबीचमा केही गल्छेँड़ो हुँदै, यहाँहरुसमक्ष राख्ने एक तुच्छ प्रयास मात्र भएको र त्यही अनुरूप लिइदिनहुन आग्रह गरिन्छ | कतिपय नाम ती सबसित जोड़्ने प्रयासमा आवश्यक भएकोले राखिएका हुन् - यस अतिरिक्त अन्यथा अन्य केही अभिप्राय नरहेको स्पष्ट गर्नचाहन्छु | सम्पर्कको लागि इमेल गर्नुहोस्: [email protected]
