Many might be thinking that our Sojourn Nepal 2016 was a pleasure trip to see the Book Launch Nepal for our book The Newars World~Wide Connecting the Dots Sikkim. More than that it actually helped us in connecting with friends, relatives, family and well-wishers besides with the heritage and culture the race and place is famous and known for. We had in mind to start our mission with the elders in the circle here during the Book Preview/Curtain-raiser held to seek blessings from all those who made it possible for us to reach thus far and in presence of all who mattered much. What could be more opportune a moment to have an auspicious start on this holy Holi Punhi/Purnima to seek blessings from who matter most to me personally – three Devi’s to take care of me as a child taking the void left by untimely demise of my mother when I was not even seven years of age. My present Muma Indira Devi, Sanu Maiju Laxmi Devi and Thulo Maiju Ganga Devi to raise me and when grown up well-qualified yet seeking a job to break the jinx. It was Keshab Mama who wrote me a letter of introduction to be game warden in the Manas Game Sanctuary in thick forests of Bhutan. It was also an opportunity to return to the society I belong to, the Newars in Sikkim, a little of what it gave me all these years ever since I came to Gangtok around this time six decades ago in 1956 to be a student of class six in the Sir Tashi Namgyal High School that is celebrating Golden Jubilee in its new avtar Tashi Namgyal Academy this year. I owe much to the alma mater and Darjeeling Government College that completes 70 years in 1948 where I completed my M.Sc. (Zoology) under the North Bengal University. We were in the first batch for its Pre-University Course having passed out in the last batch of School Final Examination of 1962 held in the White Memorial Hall – standing tall, illuminated bright that was constructed by the Newars in Sikkim for the outstanding contributions made by the first Political Officer, Sir John Claude White. All these could be seen only due to the foresight and unputdownable indominatable spirit of our forefathers that we offer our tributes every day every moment and not only on every occasion we have while beginning any auspicious event, here, there and everywhere. We would not have been here had they not made all these possible for whatever we and Sikkim are today. Taksari Chandra Bir Newar with his brother Laxmi Das Newar to have entered Sikkim invited by the powers that be here those days. It was just 150 years for the Newars in Sikkim but the wonderful golden era that we are proud of for whatever we could make out of this beautiful place in the Himalayas to be our newfound home a century and half ago. A reason to celebrate for us though many of us might have forgotten it and some may not even acknowledge for the pioneering efforts made by our ancestors though who know that this illustrious Taksari Family had given 12 worthy sons of two worthy fathers to be the highest civilian recognition for their outstanding services to the then prevailing society, state and the Nation as such the much coveted and highly esteemed honorification of Rai Saheb. They along with all our forefathers are now high above whom we cannot see like the stars but always there behind us to guide and bless us. ... To be continued
