'Sharad Chettri Smritigranth' released
On the solemn occasion of 66th birth anniversary of the litterateur Sharad Chettri ‘Sharad Chettri Smritigranth’ was released on 20 June 2013 amidst a host of literary luminaries gathered in a function held under the auspices of Karuna Devi Smarak Dharmarth Guthi, Sikkim in the Sudhapa Hall of the Nepali Sahitya Sammelan, Darjeeling. The onus to formally launch the book fell on the litterateur and spiritual Krishna Singh Moktan as the Chief Guest and the function was chaired by Gopichandra Pradhan, Head of the Nepali Sahitya Sammelan, Darjeeling. Prem Pradhan, Convenor of the Co-ordination Committee of the Sahitya Akademi for the Nepali Language and Shobha Chettri wife of the late writer were the other distinguished guests with Rajiva Shanker Shresta representing the Guthi.
The function started with lighting of the lamp and offering of mala and khada to the portraits of late Jai Shanker Lall Shresta, founder/father of the Guthi and the late writer. Before his welcome address, Shresta requested all to stand up and pray for a few moments of silence in memory of both the departed souls. In this august gathering, he remembered Kavikesari Chittadhar ‘Hriday’, whose 107th Birth anniversary was recently celebrated, and offered tribute by quoting his lines defining ‘literature’ befitting the late writer and the occasion as well:
“भाँडो शरीर मसिको, मसि रक्त बन्छ,
मस्तिष्क कागज भनि अनि सिद्ध हुन्छ
नाडी महाकलमले जुन भाव लेख्छ
'साहित्य' त्यै उचित भन्नु अवश्य पर्छ l”

Bhando sharir masiko, masi rakta banchha,
Mastishka kagaj bhani ani siddha hunchha
Nadi mahakalamle jun bhav lekhchha
‘Sahitya’ tyai uchit bhannu awasya parchha.

Body is the ink-pot, blood becomes the ink
Mind is the paper to prove what we think
Wrist is the great pen to write the thought
‘Literature’ is then just that all what we get.
So, everyone should sincerely attempt to repay his community.
This only reflects how dynamic was your life and the success thereof.
Sharad Chettri
According to Sharad, Literature is the artistic expression of the different aspects and influences experienced in course of the human life. He also believed, Once one is born in this world, be it any community, everyone owes for this birth. So, everyone should sincerely attempt to repay his community. This only reflects how dynamic was your life and the success thereof.
Thus we too were obliged hence this opportunity today, Shresta said. We were here simply grateful to the departed friend for his continuous support to Karuna Devi Smarak Dharmarth Guthi all these years and the more for his very crucial and responsible role as the final judge to the Rachna Silver Jubilee Story Writing Competition that culminated into Rachna Katha Anushthan 2005 representing the contemporary writings of the Sikkim Himalayas.
Mementos to commemorate the occasion were offered to the dignitaries by Rajiva Shanker Shresta on behalf of the Guthi, while a copy each of the ‘Sharad Chettri Smritigranth’ was handed over to the writers whose articles appeared in this compilation.
